If I had started this LJ post earlier, it would’ve been a much happier post.
OK, at the moment Clinton has a very slight lead in electoral votes, among states for whom the news networks have made educated guesses on. The most shocking race so far is in my own state of Michigan, where Trump has a slight lead while we wait for Detroit and Wayne County votes to come in (the traditional last counted here, because it’s so large). Earlier tonight, the filmmaker Michael Moore tweeted that he had heard turnout in Detroit was below expectations. I haven’t found another report to substantiate that.
Nationwide, Trump leads Clinton as of 11:15 p.m. Eastern time, 43.6 million votes to 41.4 million. Because the election actually takes place in the Electoral College, the overall vote matters less than individual state votes.
Meanwhile, futures indexes for U.S. financial markets are dropping precipitously, which bodes ill for the actual markets themselves.
I may need to drink heavily.
