Anyone ever check out “Calibrated background noise generators,” the site says, and it has a bunch of them. It can generate white noise and similar sounds, and then it can generate nature sounds or tonal almost-musical noise. Right now, I have a preset called Tibetan Choir, and it’s very calming. Another one I like is called Rain On Tent (fortunately not “Storm while in tent” which wouldn’t be soothing at all). Basic functions are free, though they’re happy to take money if you want to support the project.

I need to put this in my bookmarks at work, for when everyone is on the phone all around me or people are having loud meetings in the cubicle farm.

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.
