Slice of lIfe in a northern Alberta town

Last week I ran across a story-as-comic by Kate Beaton, who’s known for her webcomic Hark! A Vagrant. Ducks is a five-part story about time she spent working for one of the mining companies near Fort McMurray, Alberta. It’s a complicated story of people doing what they can to get by, and even in a sketch form it comes together nicely. The link above is to an intro page, and the actual stories link from that; the design from there is rudimentary (click to enlarge the art) but it’s worth it.

If you’re not familiar with her Hark! A Vagrant, you may want to check it out too. History, folks!

(It it legal to reblog something from Tumblr onto LiveJournal? Guess we’ll find out.)

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.
