On the way up north for Hiawatha, I stopped for lunch at my favorite stopping point, Charlie’s Country Corner just south of Grayling. (Must be the name.) It’s a gas station, convenience store, trucker rest stop and service area, souvenir shop, and an Arby’s. I got my beef & cheddar and curly fries, and sat down near a window. Looking across the room, I saw … this:
Yes, it’s a Christmas tree, decorated with red, white, and blue ribbons and flags and such. I kid you not. I had to get this photo at the risk of looking like a total tourist, just to prove I saw it.
I’m not going to even mention that this was almost two weeks past Independance Day, because, really, there’s a military base nearby and it’s America and all. It’s harmless. That bear trap display on the wall next to the tree, now that might not have been harmless once upon a time….
