The eve of destruction?

Past the eve of destruction
Actually the eve of destruction was last night, for this morning the abandoned house next door was finally demolished. This is almost exactly eleven months since the city council ordered “nuisance abatement” (which we used to call “condemnation” when I lived in Detroit). I don’t understand all the delays in the interim. I know the county claimed it for unpaid taxes. I think it was sold to someone, or maybe to a real estate broker. At least now the house and garage are gone. They had not been maintained in about five years, and were in pretty sad shape to begin with. I’ve no idea whether anyone will build a new house there yet.

My neighbor and I watched them work on it for a while this morning. She hadn’t looked this happy in years. 🙂

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.

Time to throw a party soon, while you’ve got the parking space available! 😀
