Poetry and the Creative Mind

I’m disappointed that I haven’t managed any postings related to poetry, since this is National Poetry Month in the U.S. My posting has been so sporadic and random, and it’s been hard to work up something worthwhile to say on the topic. And now it’s almost over. But here’s a start:

Baldwin, Patti Smith featured at NY poetry reading — it wasn’t your average coffeehouse poetry night, no, not at the Alice Tully Hall of the Lincoln Center. There were nine performers, only one of whom is known as a poet, but it sounded amazing. The part of the article describing Patti Smith reading Allen Ginsberg’s “Footnote to Howl” gave me chills, even at this remove.

I suppose it’s too much to hope for that there’ll be some sort of broadcast of the event sometime. It wouldn’t be the same as being there, but it would be awful nice.

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.
