A friend in Facebook pointed the way to an informative description of why the DDoS attacks on LJ are happening and why we shouldn’t just brush it off with “Damn Russkies!”: The writer worked for LJ in the “old days” and is a main driver behind Dreamwidth now. One of her points is, whatever is happening now, if it wasn’t for the huge Russian audience, LJ might not be here.

Near the top of her article she links to a New Yorker article that profiles one of the main targets of the DDoS, Alexey Navalny’s War on Russian Corruption. Dave read it a couple of weeks ago, before he knew there would be some impact on anyone he knew.

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.
