It took a long time for me to get the tree done this year. One reason is that usually the tree goes up on the day of a family dinner at my house two weeks before Christmas. Of course, I usually have to put on the lights and garland anyway, which are the worst parts of the job. Then everyone pushes me aside and does the fun part of adding ornaments. That didn’t happen this year, and I did the whole thing myself. At least that’s ready for the Big Event, which got moved from January 2nd back to December 25th since Mom’s plans got shuffled.
I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.
