Mom update

My mother came home from the hospital yesterday. She is to have a two-week break before going back to have triple bypass surgery. They tried a cardiac catheterization procedure with the intention of installing a stent or two last week, but the blockages were too big and calcified, so a bypass is the next step. Last night at dinner, at home, she looked better than she had in at least a month. It was really great to see that. She’s very nicely stabilized as far as breathing, blood pressure, and heart rate. My sister is concerned that something might happen in the next couple of weeks, but there’s really nothing to be done medically now; she just needs to rest so she’s ready for the surgery, and hospitals aren’t resting places anymore. (Especially when you’re on Medicare.) She’s not far from help if it’s needed.

I’m mostly mentioning it because I’ve mentioned her health recently here, so in case anyone has followed this storyline, here’s the latest chapter. Of course, Mom will be one of my major time commitments for the next few weeks, so I doubt I’ll be going out to musical or other events much, especially on weeknights.

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.

Thank you. 🙂 She is pretty upbeat and says she’s not really worried. I just made the pre-surgery office appointment where everything will be explained in detail (that’s next Wednesday) — that’s when *I* would get worried.

It’s good that she’s home – AND in time to spend Thanksgiving with you and your family. Sending wishes of speedy healing….

Thanks, John! I’m glad she’ll be home for Turkey Day. I’m sure the hospital Thanksgiving fare won’t be quite as good as home, though what she had there was surprisingly good. I even got a tray to eat with her once and it was very tasty. Hospitals with good food? I don’t mind paying insurance premiums for that….

It should be. I’ll put an ad in the musician listings on Craigslist looking for members.

I hope your flowers will be okay!

I’ve seen it snow at Easter before, when I lived in Illinois, and here in PA, too.

No. And also, no adult music. Everything must suitable for teens.

Hoping she’s all better soon, Charlie.

I hadn’t popped over here in a few weeks and just saw about your mom. Grateful that she’s making good progress. I send healing vibes and Oakley sends Pyr pats and a big lean.

*nods* The true power of people is what we can do here now, not what we hope for later.
