Concert on May 14 with John Finan

I’ll be playing at one of my favorite places this Friday with my friend John Finan (jjfmi). Here are the details:

May 14, 2010 8:15 PM – Live! From the Living Room
at the Oakland Arts Center Atrium, 7 N. Saginaw, Pontiac, MI 48340 (next to the Blue Note Cafe)
Hosted by Maggie and Jack Ferguson, who had this very nice statement about us:

JOHN FINAN and CHARLIE MONTEREY – Guitars, mandolins, great songwriting and singing… times two! Charlie Monterey’s music weaves a path through stories, those familiar and special parts of life. John Finan’s songs touch on relationships (good and bad), social issues, celebrities, bizarre geography, and evil food. Charlie and John have established themselves as performers and recordings artists on their own (with 6 CDs between them, including many recorded collaborations); and as bandmates in local folk supergroup Big Green X. Their voices and instruments blend seamlessly to produce a full, gorgeous sound – and a show not to be missed!

It’s a nice sit-down sort of concert venue; John and I will do 45-minute sets, and we just might play on a couple of each others’ songs. (Don’t think there’s any Internet broadcast of this one, unfortunately.)

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.

Is any of your work available on YouTube or somesuch?

Probably way more than you wanted…

I have my own YouTube page here: A couple of the videos are from shows and a couple are attempts at music videos (with different camera views and concepts and everything).

Another YouTuber has some clips from a show I did in November with some other musicians. Go to and look for songs “Worlds Collide,” “Take the Picture,” “Riding the High Life” (should be “Highline”), and “There’s Gotta Be a Road.” The other performers are good too.

About a month ago I did a show and later found out it was shown on UStream. Here’s the LJ post with details. A much shorter clip is also on UStream from the night before at an open mic:
