Of fish and wolves

Carp creeping closer: “DNA — but no live fish — was found in three different spots along the Chicago River near the Wilmette pumping station north of Chicago, said Major Gen. John Peabody with the Corps’ Great Lakes and Ohio River division. The sample was taken in October, and the Corps received the results Thursday [7 Jan 2010].” I’ve read of no political or legal developments in the last week.

Wolf killings in U.P., 2 other states probed: “The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Tuesday asked for the public’s help in finding suspects in 16 wolf killings across the three states in November and December.” Removing the gray wolf population in the Great Lakes from the federal endangered species list has been debated over the last year or so; as of this writing wolves are still on the list, so the killings are a fairly serious crime.

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.
