Ah, Marquette….

Blizzard: Overnight conditions close schools, businesses; area begins to dig out this morning … at least ten inches of snow, high winds, cold—yep, that’s a blizzard. The most impressive thing is that SR-28 east of Marquette is closed, from US-41 all the way to Munising, which is about 35 miles. There was a ten-foot snowdrift on Lakeshore Boulevard at one point. And authorities had to rescue a surfer from Lake Superior because he was crazy of the high waves and winds.

But never let it be said that Yoopers can’t find silver linings: Sled dog trail conditions improve with new snow. “We take as much (snow) as we can get,” said the president of the Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association Board. There are a couple of big races coming up this weekend.

There are days I really miss winters in the U.P.

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.
