Impending Vacation

The general plan is this: Go to the Blissfest Music Festival this weekend, putter around up north for a few days, then go to the Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival next weekend. A week off in the middle of summer—I hope I remember how to act. I’ve done this sort of thing before, in 2004 to be exact. Last year I only went to Hiawatha. I missed 2005 and 2006 completely—those were sad years. Between 1996 and 2004 I went to Blissfest most years.

I’ll be camping at Blissfest with jjfmi and mystic506 and a few other friends from around here. I’ll be in a new tent this year. It’s a little bigger than my Eureka Timberline 2-man tent, though not much. I just couldn’t talk myself into a really big tent, since I’ll be the only one in it and I don’t want to work that hard to set a tent up. I kind of miss the times I slept in the back of a truck, actually; that was pretty convenient.

Up at Hiawatha I’ll be with the Ott Lake Rambler and his family. We’re not sure about camping yet, as the campground fills up fast and there’s always a waiting list (on account of the festival being held in Marquette’s Tourist Park). I have to apologize to the OLR, because if I had my act together and committed to being there months ago, I too could’ve put my name in for the lottery for campsites, and we would’ve had more chances at a site. I only now thought of this. Duh.

In between, I’m not sure of the itinerary yet. A shower in a motel (or something like that) will be a must on Monday. Other than that, I’ll just wander. I probably won’t wander terribly far due to gas prices, but it’ll be good anyway. A bad day on vacation beats a good day working.

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.
