Play ball?

Why is opening day of the baseball season in MARCH? Did Major League Baseball let potential presidential candidates schedule things? The players should still be in Florida and Arizona for another week at least.

At least the Tigers dodged a bullet today — it’s 51 degrees* and drizzly, but that’s not the worst baseball weather. Starting the season today is still dumb, though. In my day, the season started around April 10th, and we liked it!

* Eventually it got to 59° F (15° C).

About songdogmi

I'm a longhaired almost-hippie stuck in the inner suburbs of a major rust-belt metropolis who's thoughtful, creative, and kind of geeky. In exchange for a paycheck I run around in a cubicle maze most days. When I escape, I play music, hang out in coffee houses, dink around on the computer, take naps, and think I should be off in the woods somewhere. Every once in a while I get in my car and drive far, far away, though I've always come back so far.

    If you think THAT’s bad, just remember: Easter preceded BOTH of our birthdays this year. That’s just… wrong.

    Speaking of the weather:

    Oh, and a very belated very happy birthday, buddy.

    Oh oh, and, Go Cubs!

      You know, I thought that the first half of the video was too good to be true. Not the playing; that was fine. But the sunshine, and was that actual dirt I saw there by the shed? And then the other snowshoe fell, so to speak. How many inches fell?

      Still, there’s nothing better than 43 degrees and sunshine in da U P after a long winter (or towards the end of one).

      Thanks for the birthday wishes. 🙂

      Here’s hoping for a Cubs–Tigers world series this year!

        Officially at the Negaunee site, 20 inches. We got about 16-18 inches. City of Marquette recieved 10 inches. Crazy thing, by 6:00pm the skies cleared and it was springlike again, temps pushing into mid 30s.

        Weather is just too wacky. That’s why it’s fun to watch.

        We had a chance of snow yesterday, but the system dried up before the cold air moved in, so we only got cold.
